Rats’ bat puts side on right track

AN UNBEATEN century by Oak Flats’ Beau Armstrong has put his side in the box seat against a nine-man under 16B team on Saturday. Armstrong hammered 122 not out as the Rats reached 9/205 while Brendan Carter (4/24) toiled hard for the Cavs. The Russell, McLelland, Brown-sponsored side stuck to their task with David Vanags, Amy Hampson, Alice Beasley and Max Pearce taking sharp catches while Zac Clift was excellent behind the stumps. Meanwhile the Wickham Mechanical Kiama 14As will resume at 0/12 in reply to competition leader Balgownie’s 169. Balgownie were looking good at 2/78 before losing their last eight wickets for 91 runs. Legspinner Tyson Wickham snared 3/13 and Mitchell Watkins 4/18 to spearhead the Kiama attack. Kiama will resume at 0/12 on Saturday. The Greg Rodgers and Associates 12As scored a crushing seven-wicket win over Albion Park. Kiama were superb in the field, dismissing Albion Park for 73. Jake Ashley (4/2) was the pick of the bowlers while Liam Case (2/11) nearly claimed a hat-trick. Vaughn Thistlewaite completed a handy double by slamming an unbeaten 27 as the Cavs reached their target three wickets down. The 10As just keep winning, this week scoring an 86-run win over Gerringong at Boxsell Reserve. Kiama were sent in and the opening bastmen responded with Zac Parker (31 retired) combining with Josh Norris for a 44-run stand. Dylan Morris (14), Coen Simon (11) and Liam Negus (16) kept the score ticking over as Kiama amassed 5/119. In reply Gerringong could only muster 33 thanks to 3/2 from Thomas Murray, 2/3 from Harry O'Brian 2/3. It was an all-Cavs affair at Black Beach with the Golds playing the Kiama Rugby Club sponsored-Blues. Batting first, the Golds were led by Owen Sutherland (10) and Will Stewart (12). Their best bowlers were Matt Brockman (2/8) and man of the match Joshua Gomes (2/9). For the Blues, Jesse Willingham and James Balding improved while Callum and Jack Porter, Dean Brownlow and Flynn Parker all hit boundaries.
