Kiama Power have made it through to the semi fianls for the first time in the clubs history. First and reserve grade will come up against Port Kembla next Saturday.
A COURAGEOUS win to reserve grade and results going the way of first grade will see Kiama Power contest semi finals for the first time in the clubs history.
Reserve grade took on fourth placed Port Kembla and came out firing with early goals to Xavier Mayes and Mitch Kemp, building up a four goal buffer at quarter time.
Mick OToole gave the Power midfield first use with some creative ruck play which saw centre man Jon McKibbin set up many forward movements in a best on ground display.
Mitch Kemp and Liam Doherty also got in on the act kicking three goals a piece but it was the ever improving Xavier Mayes who stole the lime light with his hard running and accurate kicking finishing with three goals up forward.
Power ran out winners 12-4-76 to Ports 6-5-41 in perhaps their best all round performance of the year.
First grade were looking to keep their future in their own hands and came out with aggression and poise to build a handy first quarter lead into a strong wind.
Power should have been further in front, putting more scoreboard pressure on Port, but inaccurate kicking saw them kick only one goal and five behinds.
Jeremy Cook was fantastic roaming across half forward, and would later drift down into the back half to save the Power defence time and time again as Port mounted a strong second half challenge.
Kiama took a slender lead into the half time break, but were unable to score in the second half as Port increased their pressure around the stoppages, and wore down Power to eventually run out winners 11-4-70 to Powers 3-9-27.
With the backline continually under threat the trio of Lachlan Hilton, Jaya Hartgerink and Michael Williams were
exceptional in a losing side,
playing above their size against talented key players.
With results going the Powers way, both teams have managed to make the semi finals in what will be an exciting day for the club.
Both teams will again line up against Port Kembla at Nowra.
Reserve grade will start at 12.30pm and first grade will kick off at 2.00pm.
Carn the Power...
