KIAMA Power seniors made the trip to Hollymount Park, Woonona for their South Coast AFL clash with the Northern Districts Tigers.
The undermanned Kiama reserve grade side were thumped 12-21-93 to 4-12-36.
Kiama could only field 14 players, many new to the game, which swayed the balance in the hosts' favour.
Numbers were made up by three Gaelic footballers from Wollongong University in their first AFL game along with some athletes that usually play rugby or soccer.
Considering the makeshift nature of their team the Power did extremely well.
Paul Christy stepped in to coach the reserves for this game and did an excellent job, coaching in controlled fashion with good tactical moves.
Awards were given to Phil Jordan and "?Irish Emu' and player of the match was Rhys Doherty.
First grade scored arguably their most important win of the season to date, defeating the home town Tigers 15-6-96 to 13-10-88.
Kiama led comfortably at every turn for the first three quarters, but they ran out of legs in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers made a huge comeback and the final siren couldn't have come soon enough for the Power's supporters and players.
Coach Glenn Farquhar-Nicol praised the team for a great win and stated that this week's awards were based on the sheer determination of the players.
Dan Herbert Sam Riddington and Rhett Doherty were the winners, with a honourable mention to Josh Walton.
The president's award this week went to veteran player James Walton.
The coach again stressed the need for all players to attend training, as fitness needs to improve.
This Saturday the Power will travel to Artie Smith Oval at Bomaderry and attempt to score their first ever win over the "?other' Tigers outfit.
Reserves start at midday and first grade kick off at 2:10pm.
