Kiama Power are the 2006 U15 premiers in the Illawarra AFL competition, well done boys...

WITH temperatures soaring around the region last weekend and with many heading to local beaches to escape the heat, Kiama Power U15 AFL team were doing some heating up themselves.

The Power took on the Northern Tigers at Jock Brown Oval and come away with a resounding victory despite getting off to a slow start.

Taking just a two point lead into the half time break, thanks to two goals from full forward Ben Williams, coach Darren Williams delivered a passionate address to his players to lift.

The team rallied for a great third quarter and led 50-41 at the start for the fourth with the Tigers coming out and kicking two quick goals.

Kiama Power U15 captain Matt Rawson is fast becoming a leader on and off the field, after delivering an impressive speech that left the Power contingent cheering as he lifted the premiership trophy.

Both teams lifted their intensity and competition for the ball got tougher and stinging defence ensuring no easy kicks for both sides.

The lead changed hands five times before a long range bomb from Jordan McInerney restored Kiamas nine point advantage. Tom Williams then emerged from a large pack, who contested a mark, with the ball planted firmly under his arm he then went on to kick Kiama to 15 points clear .

The defensive efforts from Callum Houghton-Smith and Jack Clarke repelled everything the Tigers threw at them and Kiama ran out convincing winners 12-11-83 over the Tigers 9-6-60.

Midfielders Matt Norris, Blake Schneider and Jack Mahoney were all outstanding. Ruckman Malcolm Picken was fantastic all day, however it was team captain Matt Rawson who was awarded the medal for best player in the grand final.

He then went on to show that he is a class act on and off the field with an impressive speech that warmed up the crowd to give an almighty roar as he held aloft the premiership trophy.
