Another fine Saturday saw some good games of netball at the Kiama Leisure Centre courts.
In A Grade, Gerringong had a great tussle with Beachettes and at full time the scoreboard showed that Gerringong had scraped home by the barest of margins, 38 goals to 37. Gainsborough 3 had to forfeit to Gainsborough 1 after being unable to field the required five original team owing to sickness and injury.
In another cliffhanger, Kiama Downs and Gainsborough 2 played out a 25-all draw. At quarter time, Downs led by 8 goals to 3, and by half time they led by 15 goals to 9.
Three quarter time saw the score at 20-17 and with Gainsborough coming back the stage was set for a thrilling finish. Gainsborough took the final quarter 8 goals to 5 to tie up the game.
In the final game in A Grade, Kiama Central 2 defeated Kiama Central 1 by 10 goals, 46-36.
The A Reserve Grade game between the two Kiama Central teams was another great game but in the end the Central 3 side easily accounted for Central 4 to the tune of 46-25.
For Central 4, Pippa Sheridan played up from Intermediates and acquitted herself well, whilst Hannah McGuinness scored enough goals to keep Central 4 in the game.
Nicola King had some great drives and Phoebe Benney was strong in defence, However, Central 3 were accurate in the shooting department, aggressive in defence and overall too strong all over the court. Central 4 came back in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.
Another game in the A Reserve division saw Gainsborough 5 just scrape home ahead of Beachettes 3 by 43 goals to 36.
It was a tough game for Gainsborough up against an experienced team.
Kiama Downs proved too strong for Gainsborough 4 and defeated them by 34 goals to 20 with the final game in A reserve division going down to the wire and Beachettes 2 defeating Gerringong 2 by 30 goals to 27.
For Gerringong, Amy Young proved an able replacement, playing up from B grade and Robbie-Lee Copping also filling in from Intermediates.
B Grade saw only 2 games played with the third game a forfeit from Kiama Central 5 to Gainsborough 6. In the first game, Werri Beach just got home against Berry and after leading 18 – 6 at half time, Werri went on to win the match, 29 – 21. The final match in this division saw Gainsborough 7 far too strong for Gerringong 3 and easily accounted for them 53 – 16.
C Grade again saw only 2 games played, with the third game a forfeit from Gainsborough 9 to Kiama Central 6. In the first game played, Gainsborough 10 proved too strong for Gerringong 4 who, following a wrong reading of the draw, only had the minimum 5 players.
In the final game in this division, Gainsborough 8 defeated Kiama Downs 3 by 53 goals to 18.
