Thanks for the memories: Former Kiama Knights junior Shaun Timmins, along with team mates Luke Bailey and Trent Barrett were given a fond farewell after the Dragons defeat over Cronulla at WIN Stadium last Saturday night.
SHAUN Timmins return from injury in the St George Illawarra Dragons 18-4 win against the Cronulla Sharks last Saturday night proved to be the perfect send off for the former Kiama Knights junior.
Team mates now are hoping to give the departing Dragons one more fond farewell come finals time.
With a few of the boys leaving we want to do it for them and each other.
We all had a good team meeting and realise it wont be possible without making sacrifices and commitment, said Dragons second rower Ashton Sims.
While the match didnt all go to plan with Timmins spending time in the sin bin after trading blows with Sharks lock Paul Gallen, just before half time. Sharks centre Ben Pomeroy also headed to the bin after being the third man in.
Nervous before the match after having been out with a chronic knee injury for the past three months, Timmins was presented with a golden football to commemorate his 200th game which was played against Manly back in April.
Starting off the bench Timmins entered into the match in the 27th minute, replacing former Gerringong Lion Ashton Sims.
Charging out of the line like a debutant he pulled off two big tackles in a row to signal his return.
The last interchange for the match saw Timmins return to the field in the 76th minute in his last game at Win Stadium.
A lap of honour followed where he was joined by Dragons skipper Trent Barrett (Wigan) and former Shellharbour junior Luke Bailey (Gold Coast Titans) who are also departing the club at the end of the season.
Looking back on the game Timmins said it is definitely
something he will always remember.
I had only trained three times so I was a bit rusty, he said.
It was a tough game and it was great to have family and friends and I will hopefully be right for the Roosters game next week.
It was a great night and something I will always remember, he added.
The trio left the field with a guard of honour formed by their Dragons team mates with none happier for Timmo than captain Barrett.
I am really happy for Timmo as hes been to hell and back over the last five years.
It was great to have him out on the field, said Barrett at the
post-match press conference.
Timmins was also full of praise for Dragons winger and former Kiama Knights junior Brett Morris.
Hes been going well and scoring a few tries and has a massive future ahead of him, added Timmins.
