Not out for Matt, just what matters

It seems I ruffled a few feathers with my comments last week about Member for Kiama Matt Brown.
Heaven forbid that anyone should question a public official. But isn’t that one of the roles of the media?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not at all saying Matt Brown is corrupt or anything like that.
What I am questioning is how each time he has had negative publicity he is unavailable.
I would much rather have published a story about Matt’s achievements during his past 10 years as the Member for Kiama. And I’m certain his celebratory lunch would have been booked months before the Jobs Summit was scheduled.
My gripe is that Matt’s office never let us in on the fact his 10th anniversary was near and that, because we were unable to speak to him, we were also unable to confirm that the Hilton Hotel was, in fact, booked well before the Jobs Summit.
Silence might be golden, but in this instance it is anything but.
I also copped flak from one reader about our online poll, which asked: Are you happy with Matt Brown as the member for Kiama.
Obviously, as that writer pointed out, our polls have little “statistical credibility”, although this poll has received far and away the most number of hits of any poll we’ve run since our last one about Matt after he resigned as Police Minister.
Let me say on record that I do not dislike Matt Brown and I have absolutely no political agenda. I just want what is best for our readers, Matt’s constituents and, believe it or not, Matt Brown himself.
