THE new principal of Jamberoo Public School said she has had a permanent grin on her face since beginning her new job at the start of this term.
Pam Grosse was the assistant principal of Hayes Park Public School at Dapto for eight years before her transfer to Jamberoo.
“Jamberoo has just always been the little school over the hill, since I live down in Kiama, and it has a good name for its supportive community, so when it came up for merit selection I definitely put my hand up,” she said. “It has a beautiful feel about it, Jamberoo, and it has very friendly and supportive staff and community.”
Ms Grosse said that for the moment she was concentrating on the three school terms remaining this year, with a focus on quality teaching and technology.
This will involve in part giving her staff more professional development opportunities.
As well, the school staff and community are developing a three-year plan for the future of the school.
“It’s perfect timing to be placed into a new school when we’ve got the time to negotiate with the school community as to what direction to take for Jamberoo school,” she said. “We’ve all got different ideas and we need to discuss them and come up with a plan.”
In the immediate future, Ms Grosse can be found in the playground wearing her new tartan gumboots that were a gift from friends who had found out the school’s grounds included a chook yard.
