KIAMA’S newest sporting club, Kiama Cove Physical Culture, is looking for members for the group’s first season.

The club will hold an information session on Wednesday, February 6 at Kiama Downs Surf Club from 5pm to 7pm.

Classes start on Wednesday, February 13 at Kiama Downs Surf Club.

Preschool classes will be held from 3.30pm to 4pm, classes for 5-8 year olds from 4pm-4.45pm, 9-12 year olds from 4.45pm-5.30pm and 13 year olds to seniors from 5.30pm to 6.15pm.

The first lesson is free for all new members.

Physical Culture is an activity for all females, from 3-year-olds to ladies.

All routines are choreographed to develop posture, grace, co-ordination, strength and flexibility.

Kiama Cove head teacher Tegan Tretheway said physical culture offered fun, fitness and friendship.

“Most of my friends have come through physical culture; I have made heaps of friends and had lots of fun,” she said.

Tegan said the club filled a need in the Kiama area.

“I have always wanted to open up a club; there are a few in Shellharbour but we have always wanted to see one in Kiama.”

Tegan hopes that Kiama Cove Physical Culture Club will be able to send teams of eight members away to competitions against Sydney clubs in the future.

She hopes the club will be able to raise an eight-member team for each age group.

“I don’t know if it is going to be small or big, but hopefully people come back,” she said.

“Physical culture isn’t just for mothers or daughters – it’s for both.”

That rings true for the Tretheway clan – Tegan, a former state championship winner, will be joined in teaching by sisters Teneisha and Tenay.

For more information, phone Tegan or Joanne Trethewey on 4296 3014 or 0412443787.
