IAS – ACADEMY CORNER
EIGHTY-ONE minutes, 57 balls, 13 fours, 9 sixes, 125 not out. Those are the startling statistics of David Murphy's innings against Manly at Caringbah Oval on Saturday. His hundred came off just 50 balls! Needless to say his team went on to record a very easy win.
Former state coach Steve Rixon said he could not find words to describe the magnitude of the innings, other than to say he had not seen an innings like it before. Could he go on and be the next Phil Jaques? Time will tell.
In other news, Academy cricketers performed well in the Brett Lee cup, played at Bradman Oval last week. Blake Hutchinson (Shellharbour) top scored with 63, while Nic Maddinson (Shoalhaven Heads) scored 49. Their contribution helped country score a decisive win over their city counterparts.
Both boys were selected in the NSW under 17s team for the Australian championship in Melbourne in January.
They will prepare for the nationals with a limited overs practice match against ACT at Raby Oval in December, followed by a Twenty20 match against NSW under 19s the next day.

Golf
LAUREN North (Mt Ousley) won the Port Kembla ladies gold medal last week. She achieved this with a creditable score of 91 gross for a 71 nett. This was a fine effort from North, as she had to compete against all other monthly medal winners from all grades.

Rugby Union
THE PUBSTAY rugby union squad held an intensive training camp on the weekend at Chevalier College, Bowral. They were put through their paces by Waratah regional coaching staff and IAS squad coaches.
This involved a skills, conditioning and recovery sessions, of which Nathan Trindall (Kiama Downs), Cameron Bond (Towradgi) and Tom Connor (Berry) came out to be the best trainers.

IAP
Is there SURF lifesaver Bernadette Cardillo (Tarrawanna) finetuned her preparations for this weekend’s championships by claiming the under 15s beach sprint and flags at the Centenary Surf Challenge at Cronulla on Saturday.
This week, Cardillo and Ryan O’Grady will attend a two-day camp at Bondi in preparation for the centenary championships this weekend.
