Sue Frost and Alex MacLean from the Park Lane Cattle Stud in Moss Vale seen here with their champion Bellringer cow at last weeks Spring Cattle Fair.
IT was a big day for Alex MacLean and his team from Park Lane Stud, Moss Vale, last week as the Illawarra cattle breeder took home the major awards at this years Spring Fair.
Mr MacLean took home the prestigious Bellringer award as well as the category of champion heifer.
I had a real field day, he said. It was great to get some fantastic results amongst some really good cows.
Held at Kevin Walsh Oval in Jamberoo, the fair has been attracting the pick of the local Illawarra Dairy cattle for over 30 years.
Although the numbers have dropped the competition is still extremely strong, fair commentator Gordon Downes said.
What the judges are basically looking for is production, a cow that has the capacity to produce a lot of milk will invariably be up there.
From here some of these cows will go on to Shepparton to compete in national dairy week while they may also compete in the Sydney Royal Show and other regional shows. We have seen some good cattle here today.
