MAYOR Sandra McCarthy has officially opened the combined charities Christmas card shop, saying that for her it signified the start of the festive season in Kiama.
The shop, in the RSL rooms in the old council chambers, has 75 Christmas cards, calendars and tea towels for sale to raise money for 12 charities.
The shop is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday until December 14.
Cr McCarthy said she hoped the community would spend up big and use the cards to spread goodwill past Kiama’s borders.
She also called on residents and organisations to place unwrapped presents under the Mayor’s Giving Trees in the council foyer and Kiama Library.
Gifts are needed for children aged between 0 and 14 years, and particularly for the 12-14 age group.
St Vincent de Paul will distribute them to disadvantaged children in the area.
The giving trees will be set up until December 14 and Cr McCarthy will personally receive gifts on December 10 from 9.30am to 10am and December 14 from 10am to 11am.
