KIAMA freestyle motocross rider Robbie Maddison’s talent on two wheels translated to four when he won the Celebrity Challenge the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Maddison, who holds the world record for distance jumped on a motorcycle, emerged as the favourite during the week-long driver training leading into the event.
He proved his passion and skill when it comes to anything with a motor by beating celebrities such as Mark Philippoussis, surfer Tom Carrol and ironman Guy Leech in the two five-lap events.
After claiming pole position Maddison scored a nine-second win in the first race over Steven Lee (skier) and Nathan Buckley (Australian Rules).
In the second race, Maddison left all the carnage behind him, including a spectacular crash that led to footballer Luke Darcy rolling his Fiat 500. The race finished a under safety car, with Maddison claiming the series win.
“The whole thing has been a great experience,” Maddison said.
“I’ve had all the world records, but meeting everyone and racing, takes it all up a notch.”
Maddison will be back on two wheels next week to prepare for the Night of World Records.
He aims to jump more than 350 feet at Calder Park on March 29.
