KIAMA JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE

KIAMA Junior Rugby League Club celebrated their biggest day of 2008 with the under 12.1s winning their third straight premiership while the under 15s and 16s qualified for Saturday's South Coast-Illawarra grand finals.

Congratulations to under 12.1s coach Dave Wheatley and all his coaching staff on helping the boys to their third premiership.

Thanks to all the supporters who made the trip down to Mollymook to support the Kiama boys.

On Saturday at WIN Stadium, the under 15.1s will meet Helensburgh at 3.20pm, immediately before the under 16.2s decider between Kiama and Batemans Bay, which kicks off at 4.40pm.

The Knights were unlucky not to have the 13.1s in the grand final as they were beaten on the siren by a field goal to Albion Park.

Under 12.1s: Kiama were determined to make history in the grand final after winning premierships in 10.1s (2005) and 11.1s (2006) against Albion Park.

They were facing the Eagles again, who went into the match with a psychological advantage after a 32-12 triumph in the major semi-final.

However, Kiama turned the tables to record a flawless 20-nil victory and their third straight premiership.

Quite simply, the style of league the boys played was outstanding.

They ran hard with the ball, hit hard in defence and never gave an inch of ground.

A halftime lead of 10-nil soon blew out to 20-nil in the second half as Kiama continued to dominate.

Their win made it the first time a Kiama team has won the mod trifecta of under 10s, 11s and 12s.

It is also only the second time in Kiama's history a team won three grand finals in a row.

The victory was all the more special as Transpacific Industrial Solutions provided a 46-seat bus plus driver and Complete Equipment Hire supplied refreshments for players and supporters.

Under 15.1s: Kiama downed defending premiers Milton-Ulladulla 40-12 to book a grand final date with Helensburgh at WIN Stadium.

The Bulldogs drew first blood before an intercept try by Jay opened the floodgates for Kiama.

By halftime the Knights held a handy 24-6 lead before both sides traded tries and then punches as Milton attempted to intimidate Kiama.

Kiama's smaller forwards muscled up, allowing Tommy and Tom to spark their superior backline.

Jason scored a try before half time to cap off a great all round game with the backs scoring the other six through Jay (2), Jacob (2), Nathan and Tom.

It is crucial in semi-final football for all 17 players to play their part and all the entire team "?turned up to play' and deserve a mention.

Under 16.2s: Kiama's "?veterans' will bring their junior careers to a close in the best way possible " with a grand final match against Batemans Bay at WIN Stadium on Saturday.

The Knights booked their grand final berth with a 26-16 win over Warilla-Lake South.

Try scorers were James Asquith (2), Dylan Powell, Mark Asquith and James Gilmore, while Brad Church booted three conversions.
