The Lions Club of Gerringong is preparing for its annual walkathon, “Walk For An Aussie Kid”.
The event will take place on Sunday, June 1.
The project raises money to buy and maintain Hart Walkers for children with cerebral palsy.
The Hart Walker, designed and manufactured in Great Britain, enables children who would normally be wheelchair bound to move independently in an upright position.
This has immense benefit for the child socially and physically.
Gerringong Lions have previously bought one of the walkers for a child in their district at a cost of $5000.
The ongoing maintenance and adjustments to the walker runs at a cost of $1000 a year.
The Lions this year have again extended an invitation to children at Gerringong Public School and to Shoalhaven Heads Public School to take part in the walkathon and gain sponsorship for this worthy cause.
Two MP3 players are being offered as prizes to the children who raise the most money through their sponsorship.
The walk this year will start at 10am from Gerringong Surf Club and move along the foreshore of Werri Beach on the new walkway, 2km each way, a total of 4km.
Sponsorship forms are in the schools for children and their parents. Anyone else wishing to take part can register on the day.
The community’s generosity has been greatly appreciated in the past and Gerringong Lions look forward to similar support this year.
Why not set aside an hour on Sunday, June 1, for someone not as fortunate as yourself and Walk For An Aussie Kid?
