KIAMA Knights have kept their semi-final hopes alive after a thrilling 40-36 win over the struggling Warilla-Lake South Gorillas in a thriller at Kiama Showground on Sunday.
The Knights looked set for a big win early when they raced in three early tries to lead 16-0 after 15 minutes, but spurred on by 16 year-old halfback Beau Henry, the Gorillas came back? to close the gap to 26-18 at halftime.
The second half turned into a real arm-wrestle and the match came down to a great finish as Kiama were forced to defend grimly for the final five minutes to save the match, with Henry and his team-mates launching raid after raid on the Knights line.
Daniel Gunning, Josh Elliott and Luke Gilmore had good games for the Knights, while Beau Henry, Mark Walsh, Chris Henry and Joel Murtin were best for the Gorillas who should take a great deal of heart from their performance.
Meanwhile, the ever improving? Shellharbour City Sharks have notched up a win over defending premiers Milton-Ulladulla and the Batemans Bay Tigers 44-14, in a week to remember for the young side.
The Sharks are now on the verge of challenging for a top three finish to the 2006 premiership and face the Knights this weekend.
Sharks Coach Peter Ellis said, Its always a hard game against the Knights but i know the boys are up for it.
