Kiama Junior Knights Under Under 10.1s moved into outright second after overcoming neighbours Gerringong 28-6 on Saturday at Michael Cronin Oval.

The win was set up in the first half when Kiama shot out to a 18-0 advantage on back of strong running from forwards Heath Wheatley, Nathan Jurd, Joel Wheatley, Tye Norton, Kane Delavere and Kye Wright.

Gerringong rallied early in the second half but could not match the hunger of the Kiama boys who showed their will to win through their uncompromising defence right across the park.

Try scorers for Kiama were Dylan Morris who got across the stripe twice, Heath Wheatley, Callan Thistlethwaite and Rydge Smith with conversions landed by Joshua Norris, Daniel Blomley, Rydge Smith and Brad Clapham.

It was a great team performance and best for Kiama were Rydge Smith, Joshua Norris and Alex Boles, while Brian East and Darcy Bond played above their weight in bringing down much bigger opponents.

The Under 8 Blacks had another home game which saw Kiama put in their season best this week, despite going down 30-10 against Gerringong.

After Brad Kilmore and Kye Cooper scored a try a piece, it looked like Kiama was in the game. Gerringong came back hard in the last 10 minutes although Kiama’s attack and defence was the best this season.

Some great running saw Sam Muller, Christian Spong, Liam Foster and Bear bust the line many times, and super tackling had Kyle Bennett, Logan Marsh-Walker, Nathan Wilson, Josh Little and Jake Taber put in their season-best in defence with sensational team work. Liam Foster bagged Man of the Match with a much-improved all-round effort.
