KIAMA Junior Cricket Club’s under 14As faced Dapto Gold in a match reduced to 30 overs a side after the day one was washed out. Kiama won the toss and elected to bat.
Dapto bowled tightly and kept the runs down but Kiama put together some useful partnerships thanks to Steven Boothroyd (14), Mitchell Watkins (20) and Tim Delaney (11 not out).
Kiama posted 93 off their 30 overs, which looked to be a reasonable total due to the heavy field.
The Cavaliers started their fielding innings tightly and created a number of half-chances but couldn’t make a breakthrough.
Jono Lukian bowled well for 0-7 off three overs while Mark Mura snared 1-10 off four overs, with the wicket coming courtesy of a tremendous diving catch in the gully by Tom Dowd.
Mitch Conley was the other wicket taker, thanks to Zen Collins’ great outfield catch near the boundary.
Dapto put together a wining partnership after the loss of two wickets to finish 2-94.
The Kiama Golf Club-sponsored 16Bs played Thirroul on Australia Day in a shortened game.
Thirroul batted first and made a challenging total of 6-179 from their 30 overs. Aaron McCrea top scored with 63 and David Bailey was next best with 24.
Kiama captain Alice Beasley was the pick of the Kiama bowlers, taking 2-10 from four overs.
In reply Kiama were bundled out for 92. David Vanags top scored with 31 and run machine Matt McLeod made 23.
Jed Austin bowled at scintillating pace and took 4-10. Robert Murphy also returned the excellent figures of 3-9.
A special mention goes to under 12 player Jake Ashley, who bowled well and then offered to open the batting against the most hostile spell of fast bowling the Kiama side have come up against this season.
The K & R Fabrication 16As continued their recent good form with a win over Keira at Bonaira Street Oval.
Keira won the toss and elected to bat but struggled throughout their innings to post a total of 85 from 25 overs.
Ashleigh Dowd was the best of the bowlers with 2-13 while Storm Collins, Dalton Sinclair, Ethan McIntosh, Taylor Hudson, Brad Nash and Brad Church picked up a wicket each.
Kiama batted well and passed the Keira total with overs to spare. Melissa Harrison (19), Steve Piper (13), Brad Nash (14) and Claeg Wilson (15 not out) were the best of the batsmen.
The team will look to continue their good form when they take on Shellharbour on Saturday.
