KIAMA Rugby Union Club are set to introduce under 8s to competition Rugby for the first time in this season.

The future chargers will play Walla Rugby, which is a modified game with seven players.

Kiama Rugby junior president Richard Asquith is looking forward to providing the opportunity to young players in the area.

"Walla Rugby is played on a modified field and definitely caters for the young age group," he said.

"It is a simple non-tackling introduction to the game that is designed to focus on all elements like possession, go forward, passing, receiving, running, evasion, tagging and ball take. Scrum and lineout skills are also part of Walla Rugby under an uncontested format.

"The main thing of course is to have fun and the whole club is looking forward to seeing all under 8s enjoying their first taste of rugby this year."

Players can register on Wednesday February 21 and the following week on the 28th, from 4.30pm in the Rugby Clubhouse at Kiama Showground.
