Kiama power to victory

KIAMA POWER TO VICTORY

May 31, 2006

Section: Sport

KIAMA Power have recorded their first win of the season in a dominating display over defending premiers Albatross.

The power came into this clash with a siege mentality after coming close to wins already this season, only to fall down in the last quarter, not this time though, with Power kicking 15-16-106 to the visitors 7-7-49.

The Power started strongly will good play from the midfield of Doherty, Andrews and Mortor who were instrumental in the attacking raids.

Liam Doherty was a constant headache for the opposition working hard in the forward line, continuously creating a contest.

Jeremey Cook took out best afield honours playing from the ruck whilst Peter Reed provided spark and flair from the midfield.

Ross Drunkenmiller now seems to be finding his feet in defence, backing his skills and providing plenty of run from the back pocket.

Doherty was the difference up forward whilst Dan Herbert provided great back up, kicking five goals from the half forward flank.

Coach Glenn Farquar-Nicol was happy with the performance, while Captain Liam Doherty was quick to praise his team mates for doing the small things right.

The one percenters were really important in a real disciplined performance by all the boys.

The win comes at a time where the Power, established in 2002, are starting to benefit for junior talent coming through the ranks.

A part of this move forward for 2006 has been the inception of a reserve grade team, which ensures the step up from the juniors competition, adding to the pride of the Power jersey.

The club now boasts 48 senior players, and the reserve grade gamble has also made way for the club to open up to players who have never played the multi faceted game.

The best part about the game is you make the play.

You are always moving whether in defence or attack. said Publicity Officer and first grade Rover, Peter Reed.

Next week the Power will be aiming for back to back wins as they travel to Nowra, with reserve grade seeking redemption.
