KIAMAS first ever feature film premiered in the town last week, with around 200 turning out most to see themselves or the cameo of someone they knew on the big screen at the movies debut at Kiama Leagues Club.

Former Home and Away star Judy Nunn added the star factor to the nights proceedings.

The actor/author said she was totally entertained by the movie, which? followed the efforts of the mythical coastal town of Miakaroo to win a friendliest town gong.

While delightfully funny in places, the movie also had a deeper social dialogue, with University of Southern Queensland senior acting lecturer Robert Ketton playing a homeless man refusing to budge from the town despite attempts by the local council to improve the towns aesthetic value for competition judging.

The movies production team was led by Kiamas Ken Methold, with members of the Kiama Lions Club manning the cameras and also filling acting roles, along with hundreds of Kiama locals.

Kiamas oldest Lion, Harry Budd, stole the show with his portrayal of a viagra-fuelled pensioner, picking up an award on the night for the most disgraceful performance.

When receiving his award, Mr Budd said he hoped to be disgraceful again to a huge round of applause from the 200-strong crowd.

Other stand-out performances came from the Roo Theatres Gordon Streek and Jean Ogilvy.

Gordon played a bombastic barrister while Jean was hilarious as a cross-eyed elderly phone sex worker and, later in the film, as a strangely enigmatic evangelist with a penchant for nor-easterly men.

Funds raised from ticket sales and the sale of DVD copies of the movie will go to Lions charities.

More than 120 copies of the DVD were scooped up on the night. The DVD is now on sale from Steel Family Real Estate in Kiama.

Two further screenings of the film will be held on April 30 at 3pm and 5pm at the Kiama Leagues Club. Tickets are just $10 and are available at the door.
