KIAMA JUNIOR RUGBY
KIAMA Junior Rugby Club is calling on all interested players to register for the 2008 season today (Wednesday).
Registration will be held at the rugby clubhouse, Kiama Showground, from 4.30pm to 6pm.
Cost is $60 and new players should bring their birth certificate plus a copy. Another registration day will be held on Wednesday, March 5.
This year is a special one for Kiama Junior Rugby Club, as it will field an under 18s team for the first time in 27 years.
A number of players from the 2007 under 16 premiership-winning team will be joining players from the 2005 under 15 grand finalists to form the core of the under 18s in 2008.
The 2007 Junior Player of the Year, Jeshua Smith, is expected to again be a prominent player with his strong running in the forwards.
With the success of the club’s first under 8 team in 2007, Kiama is offering rugby to all players from under 8 to under 18s in 2008.
The under 8s team plays Walla Rugby which is a non-tackle form of the game with two-handed touch with emphasis on skills and running.
Most teams from the Kiama club will be playing together each week at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Kiama juniors Nathan Trindall, Matt Gladman, David Brodie and Paul Asquith were part of the Illawarra Academy of Sport Pubstay rugby union squad that played an entertaining ten-a-side exhibition at the Kiama Sevens.
