BRENDAN CRABB

KIAMA-based band 19twenty are hitting the road the old-fashioned way.

“We’re going all over the country in a Toyota Camry with a really cool trailer,” vocalist/guitarist and Kiama resident Kane Dennelly said.

At the end of the month, the blues/folk act is heading to Esperance in Western Australia to begin a two-month, nationwide tour.

The tour also includes stops in Bega, Pinjarra, Boyup Brook, Darwin and Kalbarri.

Dennelly and Jason David (percussion/guitar) comprise 19twenty, who have been gigging regularly since forming 18 months ago.

The duo will be bringing a roadie along and is extremely excited about the tour.

“I’ve always wanted to travel and play music, so I thought I’d combine the two … we’ll be playing three times a week.

“It’s like a dream come true: three guys with a couple of guitars travelling around the place is going to be a lot of fun.”

The tour will wrap up on the Gold Coast on June 7 and Dennelly said there was a chance that a special guest could make an appearance at some stage.

“My brother Heath sometimes joins us on stage when he wants to be a rock star and may be coming up for a few of the Queensland shows,” he said.

The band’s new six-track EP Live at the Studio was launched at an All Ages show at Figtree’s Orb Bowling Club a week ago.

The CD was recorded at Bragg Studios in Shellharbour.

“It was recorded in front of about 20 people, just family and friends, live and in one take,” Dennelly said.

“We did it that way because I don’t like how you get a lot of CDs that have all these bells and whistles and then when you see the band live it’s nothing like that.”

Those looking to buy a copy of the EP for $12 while the band is away can visit www.myspace.com/19twentymusic.

Dennelly said he wasn’t nervous about the prospect of playing to new audiences.

“We have to drive 3700km in four days so I’m more worried about that!” he said, laughing.

Just watched these guys rock out in Broome. They gave me a free cd but I got drunk and left it behind haha. Sensational music and great performers. Loved the whole show
