JAMBEROO Rugby League Club kicked off 2008 with a season launch at Jamberoo Bowling Club on Saturday.
Earlier that day the Superoos were a surprise qualifier for the cup quarter-finals of the Kiama Knights Nines.
Saturday’s launch allowed sponsors, players, coaches, supporters and officials to discuss the coming season.
The club will run two senior sides for the first time in many seasons, president Jeff Chaplin said.
“The committee has been working hard in the off season to ramp up interest within the community and it is great to see local businesses raising their support as we continue our growth,” he said.
“Special mention should go to our major sponsors: Jamberoo Bowling Club, Fairfield Dairies, Jamberoo Pub, Elders Jamberoo, Fredericks IGA, Jamberoo Action Park and Bedrock Tile and Slate.
“The response to our supporters packages has been outstanding, which gives the club the knowledge that the whole community is behind the boys as they prepare for the season ahead.” The club also honoured two outgoing stalwarts – Barbara Adams and Geoff Ward.
Barbara Adams was given Life Membership for her years as the Superoos’ secretary, treasurer, canteen coordinator, fundraising and sponsorship manager.
Geoff Ward has spent more than 30 years with the Superoos as a player and official but decided to hand the reins over to someone else.
Jamberoo’s players, under new coach Matt Schubert, are training each Tuesday and Thursday until the start of the 2008 season.
