DURING the recent community debates about informal camping, one councillor bought himself a Kombi van kitted out for camping.
Warren Steel said he and wife Sandra didn't know what to buy each other for their wedding anniversary, so they bought the van.
Cr Steel, who recently retired from his real estate business, said the couple had friends who went camping regularly and they thought they would try it.
"Whether we'll go right around Australia, I'm not sure at this stage," he said.
The pair had plans to travel to Western Australia soon to visit family.
"When you live in a place like Kiama, I honestly believe it's got everything," Cr Steel said.
Despite that, he said it was good to travel too, and it was with that in mind that he and Sandra had settled on the Kombi.
He said there was a bit of work still to do on the van's fit out.
The first and "most important" upgrade to the van had already taken place " affixing Kiama and Rabbitohs stickers to the back window.
