KIAMA Evening VIEW club is about to celebrate its 40th birthday.

The VIEW Club is a group of women who value and enjoy each other’s friendship and company.

VIEW is one of the largest Australian Women’s organisations, with more than 32,000 Members in 416 Clubs.

The Smith Family established VIEW in 1960 for the purpose of promoting the Voice, Interest and Education of Women.

Today, VIEW has continued as an organisation with a twofold purpose: to provide a support network for women to meet in friendship and to support the work of The Smith Family.

Spokesperson Sandra Streel said that together members had the power to contribute a great deal, but as individuals the task would be insurmountable.

“It is a simple and rewarding pleasure to share a meal each month with women of all ages and listen to a guest speaker who enlightens, entertains and perhaps enlarges one’s perception of what it is to contribute as an active citizen,” Mrs Steel said.

“We meet at Kiama Leagues Club on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6.30pm for 7pm.

“Our 40th birthday celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 28, where we will be entertained with a wonderful guest speaker, Peter Cousins, who is well known in the entertainment industry and who is one of many guest speakers who have seen fit to come and speak to a group of movers and shakers of our town.”

Mrs Steel said the group met firstly for fellowship and secondly to appreciate how lucky each and everyone was to have a lifestyle that was valued.

“We have a strong desire to give something back to the community and help the needy through the Smith Family with our contributions going to the wellbeing of children, especially for the ‘Learning for Life’ program,” she said.

She said the club held numerous and unique fundraising projects “that only female ingenuity can organise and control”.

“We try to organise fun nights with a theme, while we wish to raise much needed funds to our charity,” Mrs Steel said.

“We believe it must be about enjoying each other’s company and having fun while we do it.

“We are always seeking new members.

“If you feel our VIEW Club is for you please feel free to come along where you will be welcomed with open arms.”
