THE organiser of yesterday"s charity golf day raising money for multiple sclerosis said she was extraordinarily pleased with how the event turned out.
About 220 people registered for a day putting around Jamberoo golf course and organiser Leanne Chesebro said they had had to turn a lot of people away because the registration was full.
"It"s just amazing. I didn"t think we"d get that many people at all," she said.
MS Society representative Luke Joyce, who came down from Sydney to spend the day helping Ms Chesebro despite describing himself as "not much of a golfer", said it was a "fantastic event".
"It"s just great to see local people supporting the MS Society so strongly," he said.
The money raised didn"t just come from golf, with people also taking part in a number of raffles, an auction and a barbecue as well as paying money to have golf pro Jim Butt tee off for them or buying two mulligans , where you can have a second go at hitting the ball without penalty.
Trent Bowater"s band provided entertainment in the afternoon after most of the rounds of golf were finished.
Ms Chesebro said they were aiming to raise $10,000 on the day.
"I had thought $10,000 was an unrealistic number, but now it looks like we"ll get it," she said.
Half the money raised will be given to the Illawarra branch of the MS Society for support care and equipment. The other half will go towards research into a cure for MS.
Ms Chesebro said the event would definitely become an annual one and that it would be "bigger and better" next year.
