KIAMA High's athletics team performed magnificently at the NSWCHS championships held at Homebush last week.

Unofficial reports indicate that the team finished a very close fourth in the statewide schools pointscore " a wonderful result and Kiama's best for many years.

Kiama's score was undoubtedly helped by all four of their relay teams reaching the finals.

The 17 year girls (Bianca Mounsey, Ashleigh Scott, Katelin Meredith and Kristi Pan), finished fifth.

Kiama's 13 years boys team (Caine Trindall, Jacob Brookfield, Tye Elliott and James Stokes) also finished fifth.

The 12 years boys team (Simon Meaney, Aden McLeod, Mitch Conley and Cody Wheatley) finished sixth.

Meanwhile, Kiama's 14 years girls team (Talissa Scott, Rachel Folder, Lauren Farquhar and Kirsty Church) finished eighth.

Talissa Scott led the charge in the individual events, winning gold medals in the long jump and 90m hurdles.

Talissa also came fifth in the 200m, high jump and triple jump and sixth in the 100m.

Silver medals were won by Bree Jones (3000m), Nathan Trindall (200m) and Caine Trindall (long jump), who also finished fourth in the 200m.

Other outstanding results were achieved by Amelia Hallagan (sixth in the 1500m), Simon Meaney (seventh in the 100m and eighth in the 200m), Ashleigh Scott (ninth in the high jump), Ashleigh Dowd (tenth in shot put), Mel LeGallienne (13th in triple jump) and Michael Campbell (fifth in 100m heat).

These results cap off a stellar year for Kiama's athletics team, as they are the 2007 Shoalhaven Zone and South Coast Champions, and now one of the top four high schools in NSW.
