KIAMA STINGRAYS
SHANE McCAULEY

KIAMA Stingrays Junior Touch held their annual gala day on Sunday with great success.

Teams visit from as far as Campbelltown, Macarthur, Cronulla, Wollongong, Bowral, St Georges Basin, Ulladulla and Batemans Bay made the trip to Kiama for the event, a major dress rehearsal for the State Cup in Wollongong.

The weather was hot and balmy, but not as hot as the action on the field.

After all their hard work and training, the event was a great chance for the coaches to gauge how their teams would fare at junior state cup in two weeks.

This is a great chance for the teams to gain valuable playing time together, work on their combinations and eliminate any defensive glitches.

Kiama’s 10s and 12s teams and the 18s went through the day undefeated, while all the other Stingrays teams had either a win or a draw.

The coaches were impressed with how the teams improved throughout the day.

Overall, each team played three games with 56 games played at Kiama Sporting Complex.

A big “thank you” to all the referees who officiated games, and to the working party that gave up their time to work in the canteen, cook the barbeque, set up the fields and serve as timekeepers.

Without their help, the gala day would not have been such a success.
