AFTER being crowned U18 Australian Junior Surfing Champion last week, Gerroa surfing star Sally Fitzgibbons continues to build upon her already impressive junior record at the Rip Curl GromSearch on the Gold Coast.
Sally wasted no time in the first heat after posting some of the best top turn moves in her 9.7 point ride.
Increasing in confidence thanks to recent national wins in the past few months, Sally said she was just there for enjoyment.
Its holiday time for me and Im just enjoying surfing up here in the warm waters. The event was on so I thought Id go in it.
If I win, well Ill go to the national final at Bells, but Im not fussed too much, just enjoying surfing on the Gold Coast.
Sally is clearly the surfer to beat in the U16 division, with Sydney surfer Laura Enever and Sunshine Coasts Dimity Stoyle her biggest challengers.
A record number of 200 of Australias very best young surfers are competing in the event which will run all week and will conclude this Friday afternoon.
