FIRST LIFE MEMBERS NAMED
January 24, 2007

Janet and Gary Poppett have been rewarded the first life members of Kiama Little Athletics after many years of hard work.
NUMBERS were up last week at the second week of Kiama Little Athletics for 2007.
The blustery conditions certainly made things difficult in the hurdles as the wind kept tipping over the hurdle flights.
In the end, the hurdles course was reversed to allow the races to go ahead with Janaya Zivkovic (U/15) and Alice Hewitt (U/13) both running near their best.
Sarah Doblander and Georgia Hosking (U/11) did well in the 800m run and also tied with Lanae Robinson for 1st place in the High Jump.
James Bradbury (U/7) threw well in the Shot Put and Ryan Alexander (U10) tried hard in the 800m run.
Earlier in the evening, there was a special moment in the history of Kiama Little Athletics.
Long time club officials, Janet and Gary Poppett, were announced as the club's first Life Members and presented with special Life Member Club Jackets.
Janet and Gary have been with Kiama since the early 90s and have been members of the Committee for several years.
All members at Kiama Little Athletics would like to say congratulations and thank the hard working couple for their tireless efforts.
Several athletes were presented with ribbons for achieving 10 PBs so far this season.
More than half of the Kiamas registered athletes have now achieved this milestone and it is very pleasing to see the marked improvement of quite a few athletes over the past few months.
In other athletics news, a large contingent of Kiama athletes will head to Barrack Heights to compete at the Mid South Coast Zone Championships over the Australia Day weekend.
Athletes who place in the top three of their events will progress to the Region 5 Championships at West Wyalong in February.
Athletes will then compete with athletes from Southern and Western NSW for the chance to progress to the LAANSW State Track and Field Championships in March.
The Kiama club would like to wish all of its athletes good luck in their endeavours.
Athletes and parents are reminded that there will be no point score competition on Friday night due to the Australia Day Public Holiday.
Point score competition will resume as normal on Friday February 2.
