Councillor Brendon Comber is a “fully sick” (to use young people’s vernacular) young man and no doubt makes the most of the technological devices available to him.

iPods, mobile phones, the internet and so on have all been a part of growing up for his generation.

Councillor Comber spends a lot of his time as a DJ, so one would assume he’s tech savvy.

And, like other young men and women of his generation, he would be well aware of the internet and its uses, including social networking pages such as Facebook and MySpace.

So why, Brendon, would you not, for heaven’s sake, make your profile on Facebook private when you have references about men’s genitalia as part of your activities and interests?

I, too, have a Facebook page. Many of my relatives do, including an uncle and aunt in their 60s.

We are not of your generation, Brendon, so we’re supposedly not as tech savvy, but at least we know how to make our pages available only for friends and relatives to view. Other council hopefuls also have Facebook pages. Some are private, some are not, but none carry what many would consider offensive material – even if it is a quote from a movie.

Brendon, your faux pas could be explained away because of your youth and no doubt you have learnt a valuable (if not embarrassing) lesson. But surely you are old enough to know what is and what is not in poor taste?

If not, then one must wonder whether you are suitable to sit on Kiama Council.

i personally think, that he doenst care what 60 somethings think of him and thats a better way to live life. why live your life trying to please everyone else? if american pie movies make him happy and it is his interest in watching it its none of your business. why dont you write a story on the good things he has done on his 4 years on the council and the awards he has won instead of setting yourself up for a defamation case.
