IT WAS a family affair in the first round of the Jones Beach Boardriders" 2007 club championship when brothers Dave Robinson and Mick Robinson finished first and second respectively in the final.
The duo beat Chad Uphill (third) and Matt Goodwin (fourth) on a beautiful autmn day, which produced solid 1 metre waves.
Dave Robinson was a worthy winner, as he pushed the limits all day, going for the biggest moves and being rewarded when they came off.
The Robinson brothers won their way through from semi-final one while Uphill and Goodwin emerged from the second semi-final.
That foursome were all that remained of a field of 45 that started the day.
Heat winners in Round 1 were Girls division: Jess Relf. Junior Boys; Matt Lucas, Brett Connellan. B Grade; Glen Glaister, Tom Hallagan, Rob Goodwin, Ryan Lucas.
A Grade; Mitch Kenyon, Matt Goodwin, Chad Uphill, Hayden Bombaci.
Round 2 was the quarter finals, with four five-man heats with the winners and runners-up going through to the semi-finals.
Quarter-final 1 was a family affair with father and son duo of Glen and Corey Glaister up against the Lucas brothers, Matt and Ryan, with Todd Mitchell making up the five.
Todd carved his way into the semi finals by getting every decent wave that came through and tearing them apart. Corey outsurfed his dad and the Lucas boys to take second place and secure his spot in the semis.
Quarterfinal 2 was dominated by Mitch Kenyon and Jake Milone, as they cruised through to the semis against Tom Hallagan, Dylan Wallner and Joel Taddeo. Quarterfinal 3 was a tough heat with Dave Robinson and Matt Goodwin edging out "birthday boy" Hayden Bombaci, Rob Goodwin and junior shredder Nick Clifford.
Quarterfinal 4 was another tough battle but Chad Uphill and Mick Robinson did enough to advance., eliminating Dean Relf, Brett Connellan & Ben Robinson.
Overall it was a great day with heaps of high quality surfing on show. ZINK Surf have generously donated prizes to be given away at each Pointscore & the award winners from last month"s pointscore were: Best Tube Ride: Joel Trist, Best Manouvre: Mitch Kenyon & Best Wipeout: Michelle Connellan.
The next pointscore is on Sunday, May 6. Riders will meet at the North End of Jones as usual at 7:30am.
