ALMOST 2000 people settled on the green slopes of Ss Peter and Paul in Kiama to join in Christmas Eve commemorations.
Event organiser Tom Cullen and his army of helpers had set up a nativity scene next to the outdoor church altar on the trailer part of a large truck.
A modern sound system delivered the lilt of singing voices and musical instruments leading the Christmas hymns.
At the end of Mass, people joined in holding a long rope symbolising hope and friendship towards all.
In his sermon, Father Chris Roberts said Australians should always be aware of their good material fortune in being from Australia and that we should work towards social justice throughout the world, especially in less advantaged nations.
Mr Cullen, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood, thanked all his helpers for assisting to create a wonderful Christmas Mass.
