Members of the region’s emergency service organisations will take a break from saving lives on Saturday to attend Kiama’s annual Emergency Services Expo.

Representatives from the NSW Ambulance and St John Ambulance, bush and NSW fire services, surf-lifesaving clubs, police, Salvation Army, Coast Guard and council will be on hand to give information and conduct mock rescues and demonstrations.

Organised by Minnamurra Rotary Club, the event aims to highlight the work being done by paid and volunteer services in the region.

There will be something for everyone at the expo, including a visit from an ambulance helicopter, fire truck and the water police rescue team.

Kiama residents will also have the rare opportunity to see mounted police horses from Sydney, who will be “trotting down for the day”.

Minnamurra Rotary Club secretary David Ferne said the police thought it was a good chance for them to share their work.

“They want to show their flag to the public in Kiama where people don’t really see them normally,” he said.

The expo also allows patrons to view the work of the emergency service operators in greater detail.

“This is a unique opportunity to seek out career ideas for school leavers and those wanting a career change,” past-president Juanita Barber said.

Minnamurra Rotary Club will also host a display of emergency service memorabilia in the Old Fire Station from 10am to 3pm daily until Sunday, November 23. On Friday, an original 1940’s fire engine will be parked out the front of the station.

The Emergency Services Expo will be held at Black Beach from 8am to 3pm.
