KIAMA Junior Rugby Club's under 8s played some exciting rugby in a double-header at Bowral on Sunday.

Their first game, against Uni/Tigs Bulls gave their defence its first big test, with the Uni boys giving Kiama's chief tagger, Josh Bridger, lots to chase.

Joey Daly's practice at training was repaid with many determined try-saving tags.

In the second half Riley Keyes and Hamish Edwards scored in opposite corners.

Joe Dempsey played out of his skin, scoring two tries and proving that running straight really does work.

The game finished even at six tries apiece.

Kiama came alive against Bowral with an eight tries to five win.

Matt Brockman made several terrific breaks, scoring one try and setting up Kye Doosey for two diving touchdowns.

Matt McCoskery was a terrier in the centre, going over for his third try of the day and Riley Keyes was at his best, scoring two tries in each game.

Rupert Walker showed great improvement in his ball-handling skills while Charlie Burnett showed real anticipation in defence and scored three handy tries in the second game.

In under 10s, Jhy McFarlane and Jiya Cowie drove the rucks and gained a heap of possession for the backs , who ran riot.

Beau Doosey scored a try while Elijah Crowe was great in support.

Sam Bridger scooped up all the loose ball, while Dane Edwards and Guy Walker were unpassable in defence.

Kain Dorahy broke at least two tackles every time he ran with the ball.

Dean Wishart made a couple of runs while Jack Smith was busy making ground every time he touched the ball.

Jai Field bagged seven tries and made a number of try-saving tackles. Conversions came from Jai, Sam, Kain Jhy and Elijah as the boys won 50-nil.

The under 11s had a great win against Shamrocks, 10-7.

Abel Wilson, Curtis Patton, Jack North, Adam Priest (1 try), and Matthew Panecasio ran strongly with great support from Liam Ragen, Will Panayi, Ryley Edwards, Alex Russell, Luke Asquith, Jack Schneider (1 try), Ryan Sorrell and Ayden Skorulis.

In the under 12s, Kiama put on as try-scoring feats, winning 72-7.

Aden McLeod bagged four tries with Mitch Conley, Liam Moore, Gwilym Price, Nick Kendall, Rohan Adderley and Blake Edwards also adding tries.

Jordan Jones, John Wilkinson, Ted Markowski, and Harrison Judd kept the pressure on Bowral all day.

Kiama's under 14s were missing seven players but stretched Bowral before going down 39-12.

Tries to Joel Doosey and Paul Asquith in the first half were a fine reward for good team play.

Jack Bateman, Matt Dempsey, Aaron Grigg, George Jamieson, John Vinson and Tom Mackay stood up as did Lewis Mitchell, Corey Mulhall, Joseph Mungovan, Harley Ryan, Simon Vinson, and Ben Wade.

The under 16s continued their dominant start to the season with a 32-0 whitewash of Bowral.

Jeshua Smith (2 tries), James Siggee, Pat Morton, Mitch Clarke (1 try) and Kahn Watts dominated Bowral.

Nick Quinn, Jordan Mitchell, Aaron Vann, Sam Vinson, Ethan McIntosh, Michael Brunt and Adam Skorulis were great up front.

Chris Sinclair bagged a couple of tries out wide while Liam Condon, Mark Asquith, Tom Ormsby, James Asquith (1 try), Matt Gladman, and Nathan Trindall were a class above.

UNDER 9s

The under 9s started the day well for Kiama with a great win.

In a terrific effort fullback Georgia Hilton was a standout, stopping several goals on the line.

Grace Riddington and Liam Negus made the difference up front with four goals between them.

Sarah Johnson and Jack Wallner provided great support in the forwards.

Midfielders Will Howitt, Will Stewart and Lewis Tomlinson displayed excellent ball skills and controlled the middle of the field. Final scores Kiama 5-5-40 defeated Hawks 4-6-30.

UNDER 10s

First quarter goals to Ben Howitt and Harry Stewart helped the under 10s to a flying start.

In defence the Scoops Ice Cream man of the match, Jake Heffernan, was solid all day and was well supported by Jack Lawrence.

Three quarter time saw the scores locked at 16-all, but two quick goals gave the visitors a hard-fought victory. Final scores Kiama 2-4-16 were defeated by Hawks 4-4-28.

UNDER 11S

Kiama were trailing all game and at three quarter time the Hawks led 32-19.

The Power did not want to let their home crowd down and came out firing in the last quarter.
