Planning is well underway for this year’s Kiama Independent Sport Star Awards – all that is needed now is the nominees.
The 2008 awards will have six divisions; Cadet (9-12 years), Junior (12-18 years), Seniors, Achievement (for club officials/volunteers), Elite (for people who have already achieved at a high level) and teams, with the age for the first two divisions being decided on the age they turn in 2008.
Judges are former Kiama Independent editor Graeme Henderson (chairman), Kiama Independent Sports Editor David Hall, former judges Mick Cook, Val Brunker and new member Robert Miller from Gerringong.
The judging panel are excited about the reintroduction of the awards after a seven year break, but have reminded sporting bodies and schools that the success of the awards depends on them getting involved.
“We have made the effort to get the night up and running, but we need for the general public to get involved by nominating athletes, whether they are from their own family of from their club – without nominees we don’t have a Sport Star Award,” Kiama Independent sports editor David Hall said.
“The nomination form is run in the Independent every week – it’s just a matter of filling out the form and a resume and sending it in,” he said.
The presentation night will be held in conjunction with the Gala Charity Dinner being run by Kiama Rotary, Kiama Lions and Kiama Sports Association on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Kiama Leisure Centre.
Special guest speaker will be Kerry O’Keeffe and entertainment by Sydney show band FABBA.
Tickets will go on sale before the end of July.
