KIAMA Council's Environmental Services department has given approval for buildings on the Glenn Fulton Holden site to be demolished and replaced with a new development.

The former car yard site on Collins Street will soon be cleared to make way for a new, multi-level development.

The council said the newly proposed development would consist of six shops, 14 residential units, in-ground swimming pool, gym and spa, as well as basement level parking.

The development would consist of eight medium-size and six large-size units.

The units will be suited to singles' accommodation or for smaller families.

The council said the estimated $1 million project was in line with its aim of maintaining local developments for the wellbeing of the community.

"(The) proposal will contribute to the quality and identity of the area," the director's report said.
