KIAMA JUNIOR CRICKET
STEVE HUDSON

KIAMA Rugby Club-sponsored under-10B Blues played Jamberoo at Gainsborough West Oval with Jamberoo winning the toss and fielding.

Kiama batted well, keeping lost wickets to a minimum in the early stages before a few quick wickets fell late in the innings to leave the hosts with 7/94. Jack Porter scored 13, including two fours, Nathan Brownlow scored 8 not out and Dean Brownlow 5 not out.

Kiama fielded well, limiting them to 3/2 after 5 overs before two strong partnerships helped them to 7/95.

The whole Kiama team bowled well with Tas Fredericks achieving figures of 2/3, Bailey Chaplin 1/5 and Jack Porter 1/8.

Kiama’s 10B Gold Cavaliers continued their efforts against Oaks Flats.

Oak Flats won the toss and batted first but Joe Dempsey bowled to take 3/11, which was good for man of the match.

Joe’s spell and brilliant fielding by Will Howitt and Harry Stewart helped restrict Oak Flats to 11/120.

When Kiama went into bat Ben Howitt top scored with 9 runs and Matt Brockman and Owen Sutherland both scored 8. The entire team batted well, losing four wickets for 136 runs.

Kiama’s Greg Rodgers & Associates under 12As scored a comfortable win over Albion Park, 4/131 to 9/90.

Kiama batted first and scored over 100 runs for the first time this year.

The standouts were Jack (30 not out), Jake (25 not out) and Harry (25).

Vaughan took two great catches and Tom was the best bowler with 2/14 as Kiama scored a great win.

Kiama 14As played Wests at Gainsborough Oval and batted first with Mitch Conley and Zen Collins looking quite comfortable early on.

Wests fought back to reduce Kiama to 9/50 before a 35-run, last-wicket stand between Peter Varcoe and Mark Mura upped the total to 85.

Kiama started brilliantly when Mitch Conley took an absolute ripper in close to have Wests 1/0 but the Illawarra club passed Kiama’s total in the 24th.

Mark Mura completed a handy day with 2/10.

The Kiama Rugby Club-sponsored 14Bs faced Oak Flats Rats at Jock Brown Oval and were keen to improve on their recent batting efforts.

However, they were all out for 76 off 23 overs, a target the Rats met with five wickets in hand.

There were a few highlights for the Cavaliers with Kyle Brady 1/3 getting the wicket of Oak Flats’ topscorer Zac Hilton as his first wicket. Jordan Hughes also bowled well, achieving a season best 1/1.

The K & R Fabrication 16As played an away one-day game against Thirroul and the boundary had to be moved in due to a wet outfield, making for some big hitting. Thirroul batted first but could only muster 4/116. Taylor Hudson was the best of the bowlers with 2/10 with Dalton Sinclair and Ashleigh Dowd picking up a wicket each.

Melissa Harrison and Taylor Hudson put on a great opening partnership of 74 before Melissa was dismissed for 32.

Taylor and Claeg Wilson (39 not out) pushed the score along to 90 before Hudson was dismissed for 32.

Claeg and Steve Piper kept the momentum going and passed the Thirroul total in the 26th over.

The Russell, McLelland and Brown 16Bs played Albion Park at Bonaira St Oval. Albion Park batted first and scored 121 while the best of the Kiama bowlers were Matt Hardy with 4/27 and Brendan Carter with 2/13.

In reply Kiama were 5/121 when stumps were drawn, thereby ensuring a tied result. Brendan Carter top scored with 41 and David Vanags made 21.

Best of the Albion Park bowlers were Zac Jurd with 2/11.

The under 16Bs, 14As and 14Bs will return on January 12, the under 12s on January 19 and the under 10s on February 2.
