MINNAMURRA Rotary Club has honoured one of its members for his astonishing commitment.

A surprise presentation was held last Wednesday for past president and present secretary David Ferne, who has had 100 percent attendance at Rotary meetings for the past 20 years.

Mr Ferne said the presentation was not expected.

"I get more out of it than I put into it," he said.

Mr Ferne said one of the reasons he wanted to be at meetings every week was because of his involvement with the Youth Exchange program.

He and his wife had taken 35 exchange students around Australia over the past 12 years.

The exchange program has been running since 1995 and Mr Ferne said he still enjoyed it.

Being involved with the Rotary club was worthwhile.

Also at Wednesday's meeting the club looked at making changes to accommodate today's youth.

District Governor Kevin Fenwick and his partner Marilyn visited the club to discuss the importance of keeping it alive.

Mrs Fenwick also discussed the need to support education for disadvantaged youth.

Minnamurra Rotary Club donated books, pencils, paper and dictionaries, which will be sent to disadvantaged regions across Australia and the South Pacific to help support the World Campaign in Literacy in English.
