Troy Langendoen continues to be inspired by the life of Kiamas Kim Dalton (right). Troy is pictured below with a memento from his black belt achievement, which is signed by Kim. Troy now hopes to use his valuable lessons to hopefully one day become a professional surfer.
INSPIRED by his memories of Kim Dalton, Troy Langendoen of Oak Flats is hoping to one day become a professional surfer.
The 12 year old was trained by Dalton in Taekwondo for four years and since earning his black belt has put all his energy into his Surfing.
His goal when he first started training was the black belt and the achievement is all the more special after Kim signed the wooden board he was required to break, courtesy of a jumping side kick, that takes pride and place in the family living room.
Kim was always so positive and always told me to try my best.
Her lessons really help me and have helped with my confidence. The discipline has helped my surfing as I dont get nervous before my heats, said Troy.
Troys mother Tina also has fond memories of a person that touched so my peoples lives and hearts.
I have read Kims book (The Real Fight) and it really makes you realise that life is short and you can take nothing for granted, Said Tina.
One personal story to stand out for Mrs Langendoen came one day at the beach. I was caught in a rip one day and started to panic, Kim paddled out and was so calm and I really felt as though my life was in danger.
With Troy looking for surfing success his mum has only one wish for both her children.
I think Kims influence on Troys life will help him to always improve. I really hope he gets to achieve his goals in sport and life but just want him to be happy, she added
While Kim is sadly missed by many, the message of the real fight is ensuring her memory and life continues to have a positive impact on peoples lives.
