PLAY equipment is not just for children and could hold fitness benefits for adults, according to councillor Peter Bowman.
Cr Bowman asked Kiama Council at the meeting last week to investigate play equipment designed specially for adults to help them exercise. “After the last council elections, I was at a national conference in Melbourne where they had these on display,” he said.
“I thought it was such a great idea.”
The equipment, including sit up benches, monkey bars, air walkers and leg pressing equipment, was designed to test all parts of the body and while the manufacturer could not guarantee it against vandalism, Cr Bowman said “it looked pretty sturdy”.
He thought the equipment would provide some variety for walkers if installed beside walking tracks.
“If council gets 10 pieces, you can create a circuit – anyone can create one,” he said.
Cr Bowman spent 20 years training athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport and said he advised them to find training that was convenient. “You don’t have to go to a gym and spend lots of money,” he said.
“You just have to be consistent.”
