KIAMA Mayor Sandra McCarthy hosted a civic reception on Monday to honour the work Tony Madison has done for the council and Blue Haven.

Mr Madison was town clerk between 1973 and 1987 and has been on the board of Blue Haven since. He was instrumental in getting the aged care facility built. He is now retiring from the Blue Haven board.

Cr McCarthy paid homage to Mr Madison"s work, saying Kiama was "very lucky to have someone who had the vision and oversaw that dream of Blue Haven". Councillor Warren Steel presented Mr Madison with a gift on behalf of the council.

He also presented the members of Friends of Blue Haven with council pins in appreciation of their work.

Mr Madison said the council should be proud "because it has maintained this facility despite the problems with politicians interfering".

He said Blue Haven was the good facility it was today because of the kind, loving and considerate staff who worked there.
