MINNAMURRA Rotary Club members are getting out the car polish early this year to start shining vehicles for the 2010 Unique and Classic Car Show.
For next year’s annual event, the club is seeking individuals with a classic, vintage, unique or restored vehicle to enter the show at no cost.
Organising committee chairman Barry Silburn said the focus of the show was on variety.
“The majority of people we have enter are car club people, which is great, but we would also like to have individuals because it gives them the opportunity to display their car, which they are so proud of, with other car enthusiasts,” he said.
The show is expected to attract about 70 to 80 exhibitors with a range of cool cars.
“We are careful to say we don’t just want vintage … we are happy to have a Commodore it it’s got blowers sticking up or someone’s spent time doing it up,” Mr Silburn said.
“It’s a show for those unique cars that you see in the street and say ‘gee, that’s a nice looking car’.”
Mr Silburn said car owners also got a lot out of the show and relished the chance to talk about their vehicular pride and joy.
“If you go up to an entrant and say ‘that’s a nice car’ you’ve won him,” he said. “A lot of the owners stay with the vehicles and answer questions because they want to share that enthusiasm with visitors.”
This year, the show has already secured the display of a Porsche, worth about $150,000.
“We will have everything from Morris Minors to Ford GTs … it’s wonderful to see fathers bringing their children to see the classic cars, not the plastic ones,” Mr Silburn said.
The eighth annual car show will be on Sunday, January 24, at Kiama Leisure Centre Oval.
All entrants will receive a discounted entrance fee to the Antique and Collectibles Show in the Leisure Centre on the same day.
