KIAMA Girl Guides have received Kiama Council’s Youth Achievement Award at this year’s Australia Day Awards.
Guide leaders Barbara Clayton, Leonie Bishop and Lea Borserio agreed the award was a lovely surprise for the guides.
Mrs Clayton said girl guides developed citizenship in young women and positive moral values.
“It’s not a competitive organisation, it’s about their own achievements,” she said.
Kiama Girl Guides has 32 members who play an active role in the community during the year.
Mrs Bishop said the guides are involved with lots of events from the Anzac Day march, through to fundraising for breast cancer, Oxfam, RSPCA and the mayor’s giving tree.
