A QUARTER of a century ago a group started up in North Kiama to help that area’s older residents get out and be social.

“There’s so many people within the area who need to get out and mix with other people and it gives you a chance to even just sit and talk or do some craft,” Lynette Lambert said.

Mrs Lambert is one of the founding members of the North Kiama Neighbourhood Centre and its rehabilitation and social group.

She said the social group had become much more than just a weekly meeting for her.

“I find the group here has become like a family group and I hate when there’s the breaks,” she said.

“It’s an outlet; not just the same four walls all the time.”

The centre and the social group are celebrating 25th anniversaries in July and the centre’s community development manager, Sharon Parker, wants anyone who has been involved with the place to come.

The North Kiama Neighbourhood Centre’s 25th anniversary open day will be on Wednesday, July 2.

If you would like to attend, contact Sharon Parker on 4237 8422.
