Kiama leg spinner Matt OBrien was the pick of the Cavs bowlers after taking 3/46 last weekend against Albion Park at Keith Grey Oval. The Cavs were also on song in the field with three run outs.

MATT Meurant continues to lead Kiama to premiership glory after scoring 91 against defending premiers Albion Park last weekend at Keith Grey Oval.

Batting first Park scored 9/189 in 50 overs that saw young leg spinner Matt OBrien the pick of the bowlers with 3/46, in an innings that produced three run outs.

The got the runs required in the last over with Jaya Hartgerink (17), Dale Scifleet (18), John Simon (20 and Tim Wolf (22no) all make valuable contributions in what was arguably their best win of the season.

The win sees Kiama remain at the top of the competition table on 77 points. Closely followed by Lake Illawarra (73) and Oak Flats (66).

The Cavs took on Albion Park in all grades with fourth grade recording their first win of the season.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, it was skipper Ian Pearson (31) providing some solid foundation opening the batting, whilst Tim Rossiter (45) shone at the other end.

A late innings partnership of 52 between Brad Church (26no) and Michael Appleford (29) boosted Kiamas total to an impressive 7/208.

Kiamas bowling was impressive with tight lines building the pressure on the Park batsmen.

Steve Piper (3/24) and Dave Creighton (3/12) were able to capitalise and help bowl Kiama fourth to their first win of the season, much to the delight of their captain.

Second grade played at home against strong rivals Albion Park, with Kiama desperate to win to cling onto their top four position in the lead up to the Christmas break.

Kiama were sent in on a flat pitch and got off to a quick start with a quick fire 64 from Andy Sheehy setting the pace for the rest of the innings.

Nathan Barr (67no) continued with his recent top form as Ash Scifleet (41), Steve Holtz (33) and Dan Reilly (29) hit out at the other end as Kiama amassed a massive 8/286 from their 50 overs.

Brendan Shaw (3/45) captured early wickets before Dan Reilly (3/34) backed up his career best batting display with 3 wickets and in the process picking up his 100th wicket for the club.

Andrew Ross (2/5) finished off the Albion Park innings for 133, after some tight bowling from Steve Holtz (1/21) and Josh Elliott (1/14). In third grade Kiama were seeking to continue their unbeaten start to the season as they took on Albion Park, the team they defeated in last seasons semi finals.

Batting first, Kiama were unable to gain the upper hand, losing early wickets, with Lindsay King-Gee (20) and Jason Horley (25) the only batsmen providing resistance early. However some late power hitting by Robbie Wakeham (35) lifted the total to a respectable 157.

Luke Bombaci (2/29) and Matt Cook (2/45) looked to bowl Kiama to victory, but it was the experience of Frank Weir (3/18) who gave Kiama a chance of victory. Unfortunately it was not enough as Albion Park scrapped home in a nail biter to win by one wicket.
