ORGANISERS are calling for entrants in the year's biggest cultural institution, the Kiama Show.
As always, an integral part of the show will be the Kiama Showgirl competition.
Marie Mete is one of the Showgirl co-ordinators and was a runner-up in the competition in 2002.
"It's a chance for young women in our area to put their best foot forward, represent the area and let people know more about Kiama," she said.
More than just gowns and glamour, the competition is an opportunity for personal development.
"I think it's a great opportunity for girls to develop confidence and skills, learn more about the area and just have fun," Ms Mete said.
Fellow Showgirl co-ordinator and former competitor Kylie Eager agreed.
"It helps build a lot of confidence. When I started the first time I was really scared about public speaking, but the competition helped a lot with that," she said.
The Kiama Showgirl competition is open to all young women aged between 18 and 24 in January 2008.
As well as great prizes, the winner will also receive the opportunity to represent Kiama in the zone competition and perhaps progress to the 2008 Sydney Royal Easter Show.
"We have had girls at the Royal for the past two years, so we must be doing something right," Ms Eager said.
Kiama Show Society enjoys the distinction of being one of the oldest show societies in Australia, having been formed in November 1848.
Bookings for the Kiama Show Ball are being taken now by Show Secretary Nancy Waters on 4233 1597.
