KIAMA Library buzzed with busy builders taking part in the Super Lego Building Competition recently.
More than 50 children spent part of January 8 and 9 creating “super” constructions out of the plastic bricks provided by Lego Australia.
Creations ranged from a wave at the beach and various depictions of the library to some weird and wacky vehicles.
This was the first time the library had run such a competition, which was held in conjunction with the Superheroes Summer Reading Club.
“We were really happy with the number of kids that turned up, especially because we had a high proportion of boys,” said Michelle Hudson, acting library manager.
The constructions were displayed in the library for a week. Council design and development manager Darren Brady judged the competition.
He said he was very impressed with the level of entries and had a difficult time selecting the winners.
Zoe Dignam, Reid Formosa, Laura Lindsay, Charlie Burgess, Mitchell Nightingale and Olivia Gates were the eventual champions.
They received a special Lego prize pack and a certificate to commemorate their achievement.
All the children who participated in the competition received a sample bag of Lego products.
The Summer Reading Club aims to encourage children to get reading and use the public library during the long school holidays.
