BIG swell and westerly winds greeted competitors for the fifth annual Kiama Blowhole Big Fish Classic.
The tournament was held over the weekend of April 8th and attracted over 40 boats and more than 100 competitors to Kiama for the weekend.
The large seas left organisers with the hard decision to call off day two due to the monstrous seas.
Champion angler for the day went to Jeff Jackson who pulled in a 166kg Mako Shark.
On board Ridgey Didge II, Jackson hooked the fish at 4.10 pm, finally hauling the monster in 40 minutes later.
President of Kiama Game Fishing Club, Nicole Smithers said,
The committee had a hard decision to make regarding whether or not the boats would be put to sea.? Safety of all vessels and crew is always our first consideration,.
Kiama boats, The Black Douglas, Seaker and My Way, were amongst the action in the Tag and Release section of the tournament.?
Day two was cancelled due to very large swell and the presentation was brought forward.
Smithers adds The Kiama Game Fishing Club are grateful to all the sponsors and competitors? who supported the event
We also made sure that we catered to the junior anglers, who all received fishing gear and prizes, just for entering the tournament.
